Faculty of Dentistry Organized "White Coat Ceremony"
Our University's Faculty of Dentistry organized a "White Coat Ceremony" for 57 physician candidates starting university in the 2024-2025 academic year. At the ceremony, first-year students of the Faculty of Dentistry taking their first steps into dentistry experienced the excitement and pride of wearing their white coats, the symbol of their professional life, in front of their families.
The ceremony held at the Erdoğan Akdağ Congress and Culture Center was attended by our University Rector Prof. Dr. Evren Yaşar, Vice Rector and Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry Prof. Dr. Yusuf Hıdır, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Güngör Yılmaz, Secretary General Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kocakaya, faculty members, students, and parents.
The opening speech of the program, which began with a moment of silence and the national anthem, was delivered by Vice Rector and Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry Prof. Dr. Yusuf Hıdır. Stating that the white coat is a symbol of ethical values prioritizing human health and responsibility towards society, Prof. Dr. Hıdır said in the continuation of his speech: "Dear students, the white coat you wear here today is an indicator of your determination to protect and improve human health, your desire to get better every day, and a professional life kneaded with science and ethics. Dentistry is a profession that requires interpersonal skills, empathy, trust, and respect in addition to technical knowledge. By touching people's lives, you will offer them confidence, happiness, and comfort alongside health. The safe bond you establish with every patient and the benefit you provide with every treatment will not only gain you knowledge, but also be the most beautiful reflection of your humanity."
Following his speech, Prof. Dr. Yusuf Hıdır presented information to the participants about the development processes of dentistry from past to present with his presentation titled "History of Dentistry".
Speaking at the ceremony, our University Rector Prof. Dr. Evren Yaşar stated that being a physician is not just applying knowledge, but understanding humans, touching them, and instilling trust. Our Rector continued his speech with the following words: "Today, we experience the happiness of celebrating together this first serious step taken by our young dentist candidates in their professional journey. The white coat is not just an outfit. It is a symbol of dedication to knowledge, integrity, compassion, and human health. This coat is a symbol of staying pure, being fair, and feeling the patient's pain as one's own. Dear students, do not just carry this white coat; be worthy of it. Be not only a physician, but also a good person and a conscientious individual. Never lose human love while advancing in the light of science."
Addressing the families of students in his speech, our Rector Prof. Dr. Evren Yaşar said: "The sacrifices and support you have shown in this meaningful journey of your children are as sacred as the white coat worn today. I extend my endless thanks to you."
Following the opening speeches, students experienced the happiness of wearing their white coats during the ceremony.
The ceremony concluded with a music recital and cocktail held in the foyer area.
