An Important Step for Your Oral Health: Dental Scaling (Teeth Cleaning)
Tartar, also known as dental calculus, is defined as hardened plaque and mineral accumulation on tooth surfaces. Arising when plaque is left uncleaned for long periods, dental scaling can cover a large portion of teeth and extend below the gumline. Calculus deposits, usually residing behind and between teeth, are brown or yellow. These formations, which cannot be removed by brushing or flossing, can only be cleared from tooth surfaces and the oral environment via professional dental scaling.
Dental calculus not only causes aesthetic issues, but also lays the groundwork for serious gum diseases. Gum inflammation (gingivitis), gum recession, bad breath, and periodontal diseases leading to tooth loss over time are among the most common consequences of this condition.
Dental scaling (scaling/detertrage) is performed by dentists using specialized ultrasonic instruments or hand tools. This procedure removes tartar from tooth surfaces, protecting gum health and enhancing oral hygiene.
To prevent calculus formation, brushing teeth at least twice a day, using dental floss, and visiting a dentist every 6 months are recommended.
It should not be forgotten that clean teeth are the key to a healthy smile and a healthy life.
