Root Canal Retreatment
What complaints are addressed?
A tooth that has previously undergone root canal treatment may develop issues again over time. In such cases, the following symptoms may be observed:
- Recurrent or persistent pain in the tooth
- Sensitivity when chewing or applying pressure
- Swelling in the gums or a pimple-like inflammatory lesion
- Detection of infection around the root of the tooth
- Teeth that do not heal despite prior root canal treatment
How is the treatment performed?
The goal of root canal retreatment is to restore the tooth to a healthy state without extraction.
During treatment:
- The old root filling material inside the tooth is carefully removed.
- The root canals are re-cleaned with specialized instruments to eliminate infection-causing bacteria.
- The root canals are thoroughly disinfected.
- When necessary, medication that promotes healing may be placed inside the canal.
- Finally, the root canals are refilled, and the tooth is restored with a suitable filling or crown.
Post-treatment care
It is normal to experience mild pain or sensitivity for a few days after the procedure. These complaints usually subside quickly. Following your dentist's recommendations and attending your follow-up appointments are essential for the success of the treatment.
