March 20 World Oral Health Day

Celebrated every year on March 20, World Oral Health Day has global significance to remind us of the critical role of oral and dental health on general body health and to raise public awareness. As Yozgat Bozok University Faculty of Dentistry, we would like to emphasize that; oral health is not just about an aesthetic smile, but an integral part of overall systemic health. Gum diseases are serious health problems scientifically proven to be directly associated with chronic inflammation, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, rheumatic disorders, and even preterm birth risks, without being limited to the oral cavity. Symptoms such as bleeding, swelling, or recession in gums can serve as an early warning system for overall body health.

In this context, one of the most vital clinical conditions that should not be neglected is oral cancers. Lesions in oral tissues that do not heal for more than two weeks, tissue changes, or unexplained swelling should be meticulously evaluated by a specialist dentist. In these cases where early diagnosis is life-saving, regular dental check-ups are the most effective defense mechanism. Protecting oral and dental health requires staying away from tobacco and alcohol use, adopting proper oral hygiene habits, and not ignoring this strong link with systemic diseases. Our faculty resolutely continues its mission to protect our society's oral health and raise the quality of life with its modern technological infrastructure and expert academic staff. We congratulate all our citizens on March 20 World Oral Health Day and wish them a healthy and peaceful life.
