What is Restorative Dentistry?

One of the primary goals of dentistry is the protection of oral and dental health and the functional restoration of lost tissues. In this context, restorative dentistry offers a wide clinical field covering both preventive and therapeutic approaches. Restorative dentistry is a branch of science that aims to reconstruct teeth damaged due to decay, trauma, wear, or structural defects using functionally, aesthetically, and biologically suitable restorative materials.

Thanks to developing filling technologies and aesthetic restorative materials, restorations that cause less damage to natural tooth structure and achieve long-term clinical success have become possible. Composite dental fillings, which are much more compatible with tooth tissue, have replaced amalgam fillings frequently used in the past.

Application Areas of Restorative Dentistry

Treatment of Dental Caries
The most common application area of restorative dentistry is the removal of dental caries and filling the cavity with suitable restorative materials. Restorative materials used may vary according to the depth and localization of the decay.
