What Is a Crown and Why Is It Done?

Veneer crowns, commonly known as dental crowns, are made by trimming and reducing teeth entirely to improve and correct aesthetics and function. They are cemented over reduced teeth like a cap. Types include metal-fused porcelain, zirconium, and full porcelain. They can be performed in the presence of permanent tooth discolorations, fractures or cracks, large toothless gaps, or shape deformities.

While providing a natural and aesthetic appearance, they are resistant to food stains. When properly cared for and oral hygiene is maintained, they are long-lasting.

An issue that requires careful consideration is that it is an irreversible procedure. The reason is the trimming and reduction of the teeth. Good oral hygiene and healthy gums are required for this procedure. If hygiene is neglected, the teeth under the crown may decay.

Veneer crowns are used today as reliable, long-lasting treatment methods that satisfy patients aesthetically in the treatment of many dental problems.
